Everybody’s doing it!
OK, confession: We’re not really sure what makes the MTV EMAs European, aside from the obvious fact that they’re filmed in Amsterdam. Regardless, we’re excited for the awards show because have you seen the nominees? Everyone from Justin Bieber to One Direction are in the running for trophies, and performers include Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, Icona Pop, and Bruno Mars. Oh, and Miley Cyrus—we know we don’t have to remind you about that VMAs performance that people are still talking about even though it happened months ago. (But seriously, how will she top that? HOW?!)
Here are a few more reasons you should tune in on Sunday night. For starters, it’ll be a lot more fun than doing homework…
One Direction and Justin Bieber are going head-to-head for the same award. The two are pretty much never pitted against each other, since 1D is a group and Biebs is obviously a solo artist, but both are up in the “Best Pop” category, along with Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus. All five of the contenders have been omnipresent on music charts and gossip magazines alike, so who’ll take home the honor is anyone’s guess.
There’s a special U.S. broadcast live from New York City. We don’t know exactly what it’ll entail, but Darren Criss, Cher Lloyd, and Andrew Schulz, a super cute comedian from MTV’s Guy Code that you need to know, will be on, which is reason enough to watch.
Ariana Grande is the backstage host. Yeah, we didn’t know that was a thing either, but if it means major screen time for Ariana, we’re not going to question it.
Europeans take style seriously, so there’s a category dedicated to looking good. Harry Styles (duh!) and Justin Timberlake represent the nominated gents, while Rita Ora (who just dyed her hair white!), Rihanna (who is everyone’s favorite “fashion killa”), and Lady Gaga (who…never ceases to make a statement, we’ll give her that much!) round it out.
So, about that Miley performance? The EMA producer told The Hollywood Reporter that she’s going to blow people’s minds. And you know what? We believe it.
So, to recap: Flip your TV to MTV on Sunday night at 7PM EST. All your friends are going to be talking about it on Monday, and you don’t want to miss out.
